VIOLIN LESSONS

VIOLIN & VIOLA PROGRAM

Violin and Viola Programs at Doral Fine Arts Academy are designed for students from 3 years old to adults.  Young beginners (3-5 years old) are evaluated for readiness.  Our string teachers will be able to teach in variety of teaching methods, from Suzuki to other traditional String methods that will be customized to your individual musical goals.  Our teachers are highly qualified, and many of them perform regularly with local orchestras and bands.  Our group string classes are designed for students who enjoy working in a team setting.  They are based on Suzuki method, and you will either progress to another group level or join individual string classes.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VIOLA AND VIOLIN?

Viola generally has a larger frame with a slightly different design of the bow (which is also heavier than violin’s bow).  Violin has a higher pitch than viola, but both instruments require pretty much the same playing technique and the same degree of training and dedication.  Violins read Treble Clef, while violas read mainly Alto Clef (and occasionally Treble Clef).

It is often advised to get started beginning students on the violin first before introducing or switching to viola, because violin is smaller and more navigable for the little hands and fingers.

WHAT WILL I OR MY CHILD LEARN IN A VIOLIN/VIOLA CLASS?

We will provide our first time violin/viola students with an instrument and all the necessary materials during the first class.  Violins and violas are quite affordable, and they come in different sizes accommodating the smallest students (ages 3-5).  We highly recommend to our students to bring their own violin/viola on their second class should they choose to enroll in the Academy after the Introductory Class.  We will be introducing a rental/purchase program in a month or two at our Academy.  Stay tuned for our new programs.

Our violin/viola students begin by learning the parts of the instrument and how to properly hold their instrument.  It often takes several classes to achieve the necessary comfort level of holding the instrument, developing strength of the fingers and hands to producing musical sound.

We give numerous opportunities for our violin/viola students to perform throughout the year.  Many of our events have become a yearly beloved tradition, such as Halloween Carnival, Ensemble Festival, Holiday Sounds and Annual Recital.  Performing in these and other recitals is optional, where students make personal decision with  their teachers and parents which recitals they wish and ready to participate in.  Our events are very organized, and they are a lot of fun.
